Digital Photography: Excitement In Stillness - The Photography of John Grevan: About John Grevan

Color! It’s the color of a scene that first peaks my interest, and its’ only after that initial attraction I begin to consider composition, lens choice, and exposure. When it all works, it’s close to spiritual.

That does not mean I would miss the advantage of a moment in time. I will certainly take the photograph. The resultant image, however, needs to meet the same criteria.

I love photographing sunsets. The wonderful tones and hues of that time-of-day makes me feel as if the sun is wrapping us in a blanket to keep warm and safe until it returns the next morning.

I am self-thought and have refined my skills since childhood. However it was the many years spent in advertising that, having been exposed to, and encouraged by, some of the best talents in the business, gave me the confidence to believe in myself.

I have traveled extensively in this country and abroad for business, and more recently as a photographer - tourist with my wife, Deanna, at my side. Amongst the many fruits of these travels are the thousands of images I have added, and continue to add, to my image base.

While film is a wonderful medium that has inspired many great photographers to produce work that I could never hope to equal, the evolution to digital media makes possible a total hands-on control over the entire process that I always believed was essential to the creative effort.

The vast majority of my photography is digital and the remaining small percentage is film that has been painstakingly transferred to digital.

I do not accept assignment work. I capture only those images, or moments in time, that are important to me.

I am honored to present my work and sincerely hope you will share in the excitement I have attempted to convey in still images.
